Pro-Choice News Roundup: Good News, Bad News

Today, in Kind Of Awesome Pro-Choice News: The Women’s Health Protection Act! This proposed bill is good, proactive, pro-woman policy — it would prevent states from passing burdensome anti-choice legislation. On the one hand, that is just what we need! On the other hand, common sense, moderate pro-choice legislation has a snowball’s chance in hell of getting through the conservative-controlled House. Women in Oklahoma, Rejoice! (Part Deux): The Supreme Court recently declined to hear an Oklahoma case that might have made the abortion pill de facto illegal. Now, they have also decided not to hear a case about mandatory ultrasounds, by overturning a state law requiring all women seeking abortion care to receive ultrasounds and listen to a description of the fetus. Good-bye, terrible law! Hooray, women of Oklahoma! [Bustle]

Because Having Doctors Lie to Patients Is More Ethical Than Mentioning Abortion? Ummmm…Okay. The ACLU has filed a complaint against a Catholic hospital in Colorado after they chastised a doctor for mentioning abortion. The hospital’s rules prohibit doctors from discussing abortions, even in cases where the mother’s life is at risk.  I guess because they’re so pro-life! [Durango Herald]
