NARAL Pro-Choice America’s Ilyse Hogue: Trafficking “Compromise” is “Bad Policy, Harmful to Women”

In response to the so-called “compromise” on the Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act–a Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX)-sponsored “compromise” that still denies victims of sex trafficking access to abortion services under the Hyde Amendment–cornynNARAL Pro-Choice America President Ilyse Hogue called the bill “unconscionable” and just another example “in the long series of premeditated, coordinated and sustained attacks on women’s health care, advancing the far-right wing goal of banning abortion altogether.”

Senate Republicans have been stalling the confirmation of Attorney General nominee Loretta Lynch, who has been cooling her heels on the sidelines for five months while senators argue about whether women fleeing from sex slavery should be allowed to get abortions, over the bill’s expansion of the Hyde Amendment, which prohibits federal funding for abortions. The so-called compromise still expands Hyde to apply to private funding for abortions for trafficking victims.
